Dauphines CHARLEROI edge CV Haris in opening round of women’s Challenge Cup
2017 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup - Women

La Laguna, Spain, December 15, 2016. On Wednesday night Spain’s CV Haris TENERIFE lost their first match in the 2017 edition of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup – Women. The visitors of Dauphines CHARLEROI were able to cruise to a 3-1 victory (25-12, 16-25, 25-20, 25-23) which bodes well for the return game they will be playing on home soil.

The Spaniards quickly trailed in the opening set (1-5) as they looked nervous and could not make up for such a slow start (7-13). Dauphines CHARLEROI, on the other hand, kept the pressure high and finished the first set with a landslide 25-12 victory chiefly contributed by their Spanish-born opposite Sara Folgueira.

CV Haris responded well taking the lead in the second set (5-3) and slowly but surely showed they could stand the challenge brought by their Belgian opponent (20-13). Janine Sandell eventually brought the second set to an end at 25-16 to provide the fans in attendance with something to cheer about.

Dauphines CHARLEROI stepped up their efforts in the third set leading 9-5 and even though the hosts put up a fight, they still conceded this set to their opponents with the Belgians emerging victorious at 25-20. The crowd provided CV Haris with an extra boost of energy in the early stages of the fourth set which resulted in a massive 10-1 lead for the Spaniards, but Dauphines CHARLEROI responded promptly and eventually closed the match at 25-23, thus avoiding the risks associated with a tie-break.
