Block Devils reign supreme with second straight-sets victory in as many matches
2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Men
Perugia, Italy, December 22, 2016. Sir Sicoma Colussi PERUGIA extended their positive streak in Pool E of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men with a 3-0 victory over Knack ROESELARE of Belgium (25-22, 25-21, 25-23). The Italians haven’t dropped a single set so far in the competition for two weeks ago they stamped another 3-0 win over Halkbank ANKARA of Turkey.
Even though Belgium’s reigning national champions played with a lot of energy and determination, they could not take any set away from PERUGIA. Lorenzo Bernardi opted for the expected starting six with the only exception being libero Federico Tosi replacing Andrea Bari; as for the Belgians, they did stick with the plans announced on Wednesday by their coach Emile Rousseaux.
It was a close affair but PERUGIA were always ahead by a few points. The fans enjoyed a few mighty aces and great defence actions, with a number of Belgian fans making some noise among the loud and raucous Italian audience. PERUGIA claimed the third set 25-23 and this sealed their second win in as many matches in Pool E.
Lorenzo Bernardi, head coach of Sir Sicoma Colussi PERUGIA, said: “I am very happy with the result and with the score. It was not easy at all because they are a team that plays very good Volleyball whereas some of our players have been struggling with a cold but we could achieve the goal we had set for this match and I am very happy with this.”
Miguel A. Fornes, player of Knack ROESELARE said: “We had prepared very well for this match because we knew that PERUGIA have a great team. Unfortunately, we could not win but I am very satisfied with our performance.”
