Liu Jo Nordmeccanica take first place in Pool A, qualify for Playoffs 6
2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League - Women
Modena, Italy, February 28, 2017. Mission accomplished! Liu Jo Nordmeccanica MODENA secured their progression to the Playoffs 6 of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Women after taking the first two sets of their home matchup with Chemik POLICE. The Italians eventually rallied to a 3-0 victory (25-13, 25-18, 25-22) and could even use some of their second lines in the third set. There was no game in PalaPanini, Chemik POLICE did not perform to the best of their abilities and could not keep the pace of the hosts right from the beginning of the match.
Liu Jo Nordmeccanica MODENA coach Marco Gaspari: “Making it to the Playoffs 6 is a big thing, a result which we are happy to share with a city as important as Modena, where the fans deserve this kind of result in a season which has been so far a difficult one. We have reached an important goal and we did so in a difficult pool, where we won five matches and lost one at the tiebreak. Therefore, we deserved to go through and we did it in an important way because in the two sets that mattered we showed a lot more energy, determination and a much better game compared to POLICE.”
Liu Jo Nordmeccanica MODENA captain Jovana Brakocevic Canzian: “We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game for us, Chemik POLICE had come here to win and play their best. From the first point, we played our game and we kept a high level and the right concentration to bring home this fantastic result. We have proven to be a team; today all players on the roster played and showed their best. Now we will focus 100% on the Italian Cup which is coming up later this week.”
Chemik POLICE coach Jakub Gluszak: “First of all I think that my team could have played much better than they did. We showed in our last practice and in our last match in the Polish national league that we are a strong team and we are getting better and better. We expected to play well today, maybe the problem was in my players’ head; I have to talk with my team. For us this is the end of our journey in this competition and now we have to focus only on our national league.”
Chemik POLICE captain Aleksandra Jagielo: “It is difficult to say something after such a heavy loss. We have to congratulate MODENA. It is a pity that we have to leave this competition. Every time we think that this should be the right year, we always do not reach the goals that we have set. This was a difficult pool, we played a good match against Imoco Volley CONEGLIANO but we could not do the same against MODENA. Now we have to focus on the Polish league.”
