Two female referees take centre stage at men’s national league final in Austria
News from the National Federations
Innsbruck, Austria, April 16, 2015. Europe’s Volleyball family has been working hard to promote and support female referees on the international stage and this cause has been advocated in a number of seminars already where all National Federations were invited to follow up on this action. Things are evolving in a positive way also in Austria where something truly historic just happened in the third match opposing Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK to Posojilnica AICH/DOB in the Championship series of the men’s national league.
It was indeed the first time ever that a final match of the men’s championship was refereed by two women, namely Andrea Haas and Elisabeth Erlacher, who served as first and second referee, respectively. The match was the third round in a best-of-seven series and ended in a 3:0 win (25-14, 25-20, 25-18) for the hosts of Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK who this way made it one step closer to seizing the title. As they have swept three matches in a row, they now ‘only’ need one more victory to be crowned the 2015 Austrian champions and they will have their first shot at it in round 4 which is scheduled for this coming Saturday, April 18.
