Volleyball family mourns passing of Polish world-class coach Andrzej Niemczyk
News from the National Federations

Warsaw, Poland, June 2, 2016. The Volleyball family mourns the passing of world-class coach Andrzej Niemczyk. Niemczyk passed away on Thursday, June 2, at the age of 72, after a long fight with a serious illness. An outstanding and charismatic coach, he steered Poland women’s national team to back-to-back European Championship gold medals in 2003 and 2005.

The CEV and all members of Europe’s Volleyball family address their deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.

Coach Andrzej Niemczyk’s long list of achievements includes:

Poland Women’s National Team Coach (1975–1977)

1975 – 6th place at the European Championship in Yugoslavia
1977 – 4th place at the European Championship in Finland

Federal Republic of Germany Women’s National Team Coach (1981–1989)

1982 – 14th place at the World Championship in Peru
1983 – 5th place at the European Championship in East Germany
1984 – 6th place at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles
1985 – 6th place at the European Championship in the Netherlands
1986 – 13th place at the World Championship in Czechoslovakia
1987 – 9th place at the European Championship in Belgium
1989 – 6th place at the European Championship in West Germany

Poland Women’s National Team Coach (2003–2006)

2003 – Gold Medal at the European Championship in Turkey
2005 – Gold Medal at the European Championship in Croatia

As club coach:

Champion of Germany: 1982,1983,1984,1986,1987,1988 (SV LOHHOF)
Champion of Turkey: 1997 (Vakifbank ISTANBUL), 1998 (Vakifbank ISTANBUL), 1999 (Vakifbank ISTANBUL), 2001 (Eczacibasi ISTANBUL)
German Cup (SV LOHHOF): 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986
German Cup (SCC BERLIN): 1994, 1996

On top of this, he claimed a number of European trophies while being at the helm of German and Turkish teams. He will be greatly missed.
