Road to #EuroVolleyW – Hungarian daily newspaper Nemzeti Sport acknowledges historic achievement of women’s national team
News from the National Federations
Budapest, Hungary, October 15, 2016. Last Sunday Hungary secured their progression to the Final Round of the 2017 women’s EuroVolley – and they did so on home soil and in dramatic fashion, as they booked their ticket to Azerbaijan and Georgia only after edging their neighbours from Romania at the golden set. As a result, Hungary will make their second straight appearance in the European Championship Finals – an achievement which follows their historic comeback in 2015 after a hiatus that had lasted for as long as 28 years.
This outstanding achievement has been prominently acknowledged by Nemzeti Sport, Hungary’s one and only daily sports newspaper, which produced a giant poster of the team coached by Jan De Brandt with as many as 64,500 copies distributed on Friday, October 14.
Friday’s edition of Nemzeti Sport also included an interview with the President of the Hungarian Volleyball Federation, Dr Ferenc Kovacs, who announced that Hungary will apply to co-host the 2019 edition of the women’s European Championship.
