Beach Volleyball players among England’s ambassadors for 2018 Commonwealth Games
News from the National Federations

London, England, November 9, 2016. With 15 months to go until the start of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, Commonwealth Games England (CGE) launched Team England’s Athlete Ambassador programme, which will see CGE work closely with 30 of England’s leading athletes and rising stars in the build-up to the Gold Coast Games. These include Beach Volleyball players Jake Sheaf and Chris Gregory, who this past weekend netted the gold medals at a NEVZA zonal event held in Göteborg, Sweden.

The Athlete Ambassadors will support CGE to raise the profile of Team England and its values, develop a strong Team England ethos amongst athletes, the organisation and the nation, and help to prepare Team England for the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

The programme is led by Denise Lewis, President of Commonwealth Games England and former Olympic, European and Commonwealth champion. She said: “The Commonwealth Games is the pinnacle of many athletes’ careers. We will support Team England athletes to give them the best possible chance of success in 2018. One of the biggest challenges athletes can face is performing in a multi-sport environment, and we will work with this outstanding group of Team England Athlete Ambassadors to ensure that Team England is the best prepared it has ever been for the challenge of a major overseas Games.”

Beach Volleyball will feature on the programme of the Commonwealth Games for the first time ever at Gold Coast 2018.
