News from the National Federations
Vilnius, Lithuania, December 12, 2016. Darius Čerka, himself a former Volleyball player, was elected this past Friday President of the Lithuanian Volleyball Federation (LTF) following the organisation’s General Assembly held in the country’s capital, Vilnius. Čerka received 18 votes out of those cast by the 31 delegates in attendance; his competitors Vidas Makauskas and Žilvinas Galimovas received seven and six, respectively. Outgoing President Marius Vasiliauskas was appointed as the Federation’s Vice-President and will be responsible for all Beach Volleyball activities.
Mr Čerka previously worked for four years as Vice-President, following mainly the Volleyball activities of the organisation previously chaired by Mr Vasiliauskas. Mr Čerka chiefly helped raise the profile of Volleyball in the Baltic country and at the same time re-shaped the image and perception of the Lithuanian Volleyball Federation on the European and global stage.
Following last Friday’s Assembly, Mr Aurelijus Zuoza was elected chairman of the LTF Judicial Panel, Mr Tadas Donėla was appointed as President of the Coaches Commission, with Mrs Dangė Gilienė now leading the Youth Commission. Mr Andrius Gaidys will be acting as interim Secretary General.
