Arturo Di Giacomo bids farewell to international Volleyball in Civitanova

Civitanova Marche, Italy, December 21, 2016. One of Europe’s best known and highly qualified referees, Arturo Di Giacomo bid farewell to international Volleyball on Tuesday night when officiating at the matchup between Italy’s Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA and Czech national champs Dukla LIBEREC on schedule for the second round of the 2017 CEV Volleyball Champions League – Men group stage.
The 55-year-old Di Giacomo has been awarded as Belgium’s ‘Referee of the Year’ a few times and his successful career on the international stage resulted in his appointment to many matches of the European Cups, European Championships and World Championships as well. He reached the pinnacle of his career in the sport earlier this year when officiating at matches of the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Di Giacomo, who has Italian roots, delivered an emotional speech when bidding farewell to international Volleyball in Civitanova Marche. He will officially put an end to his refereeing career in 2017 when Belgium’s 2016-2017 domestic competitions will come to an end with the final stages of the country’s national league.
