Reigning MEVZA Cup champions ACH Volley qualify for Final Four
News from the Zonal Associations

Vienna, Austria, January 14, 2017. Last year’s MEVZA Cup gold medal winners and currently championship leaders ACH Volley LJUBLJANA stormed on Saturday to a remarkable 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-19) home victory over their compatriots Calcit KAMNIK.

As a result, Slovenia’s CEV Champions League participants extended their winning streak to five matches in a row and qualified for the Final Four tournament. ACH Volley currently top the charts on sixteen points with three matches left in the regular season followed by Bystrina SPU NITRA on twelve points.

Austria’s Posojilnica AICH/DOB are back on track. The CEV Cup participants had to cope with disappointing setbacks, losing three times in a row. But on Saturday in Innsbruck AICH/DOB claimed a quite compelling 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-14) win over Vegyesz RC KAZINCBARCIKA, closing the gap to the third- and fourth-placed teams of Mladost ZAGREB and Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK.
In Zagreb Slovakia’s Spartak MYJAVA celebrated a 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 30-28) victory over Croatia’s national title-holders Mladost Ribola KAŠTELA.

In the women’s competition, Vasas Obuda BUDAPEST beat SG VB NÖ SOKOL/POST 3-1 (25-14, 25-23, 19-25, 25-22). Austria’s champions lost for the fifth time this season, while Hungary`s runners-up recorded their fourth victory in their sixth match. The win takes Vasas to the second spot of the current standing, two points behind reigning MEVZA Cup champions Calcit LJUBLJANA. The table leaders still have not dropped a point in the four matches they have contested so far.

The regular season will continue on Sunday with Hypo Tirol INNSBRUCK vs. Vegyesz RC KAZINCBARCIKA, Mladost ZAGREB vs. Spartak MYJAVA and Mladost ZAGREB vs. Spartak MYJAVA.
