Brøndby, Denmark, January 23, 2017. The women’s team of Holte claimed this past weekend a historic NEVZA Club Championships title – achieving this feat for the first time ever. In the final match played on Sunday afternoon, they defeated reigning Nordic champions Brøndby in straight sets. The third Danish team participating in the Final Four, i.e. Amager, claimed the bronze medals to complete a historic clean sweep of the podium for the host country.
For the first time ever, Holte can call themselves the best women’s team in Scandinavia. Holte rallied to a comprehensive 3-0 victory (25-12, 25-15, 25-16) over their Danish rivals, Brøndby, in the final match of this year’s NEVZA Club Championship.
“It’s been a while since we last won something, so we almost did not know how to celebrate properly,” said Holte head coach, Sven-Erik Borch Lauridsen. “I am truly happy and proud with the performance of the girls. Since we lost to Brøndby in the national cup final a month ago, we knew what we had to work and focus on. The entire team was incredibly focused on performing as good as possible,” he continued.
”We have been working together since January 2 and that has made a great difference,” he continued. “Our block and defense were spectacular today, and our attacks have just been getting better with each day. It all culminated today with a match which was close to perfection.”
The NEVZA Club Championships finals began Friday with seeding matches where Holte defeated the third Danish team, Amager in three sets. In the semi-final one day later, HK from Iceland was defeated 3-0 as well.
As Amager won the bronze medal match with HK 3-0 (27-25, 25-20, 25-18), the tournament ended with a historic result for Denmark, with teams from this country completing a clean sweep of the podium.
