Snow Volleyball event in Russia with Vietnamese participation!
News from the National Federations
Tula, Russia, January 31, 2017. Snow Volleyball is drawing more and more attention in Russia – and after a couple of tournaments took place in early January in Saint Petersburg and Moscow, the competition on snow continued with another event, this time in Tula. As many as 12 men’s teams participated in the ‘Tulitsa’ Snow Volleyball tournament, including visitors from abroad – and more specifically from a country, Vietnam, which is rarely associated with snow and winter sports in general.
Though the players from South-East Asia could not fight for the medals, they nevertheless received much support from the crowd. Aleksander Polyak/Pavel Rakusov from Moscow finished on top of the pile with the silver and bronze medals going to athletes from Tula – Leonid Kipichenko/Dmitry Voronkov taking silver while brothers Leonid and Konstantin Kartavenko settled for third place. The referees of the tournament were players from the local women’s indoor Volleyball team.
Snow Volleyball was officially recognised by Russia’s Ministry of Sports in December 2016 and a lot more events are due to take place throughout the remainder of the winter season in many cities of the Russian Federation.
