Technical Meeting shapes bright future for WEVZA following FIVB recognition
News from the Zonal Associations
Vilvoorde, Belgium, February 23, 2017. The annual Technical Meeting of the Western European Volleyball Zonal Association (WEVZA) took place on Thursday at the Euro Volley Center in Vilvoorde, Belgium with representatives of the eight member Federations – Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the Netherlands – in attendance. It was an extremely important meeting since it follows the official recognition of WEVZA granted by the FIVB earlier this year, with many zonal activities now set to take place throughout 2017.
The premises of the Euro Volley Center played host to the annual WEVZA Technical Meeting organised by WEVZA Vice President and President of the Royal Belgian Volleyball Federation, Mr Willy Bruninx in close cooperation with the Flemish Volleyball Federation and their President, Mr Jean-Paul De Buysscher. While addressing the attendees, Mr Bruninx put an emphasis on the fruitful cooperation established with the CEV and FIVB and its importance for the successful delivery and organisation of the many future zonal activities and competitions planned by WEVZA.
Two Commissions – one for under-age Volleyball competitions chaired by Mr Teodemiro de Carvalho (POR) and another one for Beach Volleyball under the coordination of Mr Patrice Marquet (FRA) – were established to plan and discuss the calendar of activities for the 2017-2020 period. The attendees discussed and finalised the respective Competitions Regulations in order to align these with the requirements set by the CEV.
The delegates were extremely pleased with the outcome of the meeting, which bodes well for the future of WEVZA and the further growth and development of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball across all member countries.
