KV Drita GJILAN claim back-to-back title in Kosovo women’s national league
News from the National Federations
Prishtina, Kosovo, April 17, 2017. KV Drita GJILAN claimed on Sunday their second straight tile in Kosovo women’s national league after taking the second match of the championship series with KV SKENDERAJ (3-1; 25-19, 22-25, 25-14, 25-17). KV Drita GJILAN had won also the previous matchup by the same score.
KV Drita GJILAN made history earlier this season when they competed in the first round of the elite CEV Volleyball Champions League – the first team from Kosovo to do so. They ended up losing to Bulgaria’s national champions Maritza PLOVDIV. By taking the national league title, they made sure they would participate in the 2018 edition of Europe’s elite club competition as well.
The reigning champions took the first set 25-19 but KV SKENDERAJ fought back after trailing early in the second set to rally to a 25-22 win. KV Drita displayed a show of strength in the third set, which they won at a canter (25-14) and eventually seized the crown by winning the fourth set as well.
As a result, KV Drita GJILAN completed a clean sweep of domestic competitions since earlier this season they had won the national cup of Kosovo for the fourth straight year.
