CEV President confirms Poland’s status as ‘Volleyland’, looks forward to historic 2019 men’s EuroVolley in four countries
News from the CEV

Krakow, Poland, September 2, 2017. On Saturday, shortly before the highly anticipated semi-final match featuring Serbia and Germany, CEV President Aleksandar Boričić was pleased to share with a large number of media the latest news about European Volleyball. The CEV President was especially proud to disclose some further insights into the 2019 edition of the men’s EuroVolley, with France, Slovenia, Belgium and the Netherlands co-hosting the flagship continental competition in two years’ time.

However, before looking at what is next, Mr Boričić deserved warm words to the Polish Volleyball Federation, which have been playing host to a highly successful 2017 men’s EuroVolley. “I may repeat myself but as I did at the Opening Ceremony last week in Warsaw, I would like to confirm that Poland have the most knowledgeable and educated Volleyball fans in the world. The Polish Volleyball Federation, the local authorities, and everyone involved in the delivery of this year’s EuroVolley have done a terrific job. On a scale from 1 to 10, they deserve 10+, actually 11 points for the amazing work they have done.”

Mr Boričić shared the stage at TAURON Arena with the Presidents of the four National Federations hosting the 2019 edition of the men’s EuroVolley – a truly historic one, for it will feature as many as 24 participating teams and will take place across four countries. “I would like to commend the efforts made so far by our friends from France, Slovenia, Belgium and the Netherlands – they joined forces and have come together to deliver a real Volleyball party in two years. This tournament will take the most prestigious Volleyball competition in Europe from Brussels, the capital of the European Union, to Paris via Ljubljana and the Netherlands, so we can look forward to joining an unprecedented Volleyball party. We invite fans and media alike to come – and I can promise you that as soon as the 2017 women’s European Championship finishes, the CEV will start working with all four countries in order to deliver the experience of a lifetime, something which will have a lasting legacy on the growth of Volleyball across the whole of Europe.”

“On top of this, I would like to praise the level of European Volleyball, which has never been as competitive as it is now. If you take all of the global Volleyball competitions organised earlier this year, European teams have won half of the medals at stake. The reigning European and world champions, France and Poland, as well as the top four from the 2015 EuroVolley did not reach the semis at this tournament, and I think this speaks for itself about the competitiveness and current level of European Volleyball,” the CEV President added.
